Blue Flag

The “Blue Flag” is the world’s most recognised and widespread international eco-label for beaches, marinas and tourism boats that meet strict quality and environmental management criteria. The founder and International Coordinator of the Programme is the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE), based in Denmark, with members in 81 countries from all continents and represented in Greece by the Hellenic Society for the Protection of Nature (HSPN). In Greece, the Programme is supported by the Ministry of Environment, the Ministry of Tourism and the GNTO, among others.

The “Blue Flag” has been awarded since 1987 to beaches and marinas that meet the strict criteria for the award. In 2017, the programme was also launched for tourism boats in our country, which are awarded for their sustainable management. The programme uses environmental education as a tool and aims to raise awareness and promote sustainability in the tourism sector. The process is voluntary and compliance with the criteria combined with good management practices bring positive change and reduce the environmental footprint.
