Green Key
Green Key is the leading environmental quality standard in the tourism industry. It represents a commitment to ecological behavior, a trademark of environmental compliance, and a symbol of full adoption of the internationally recognized criteria set by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE). It is a standard of excellence for all those who combine tourism development with sustainability and ensure operations without environmental impact.
Green Key is recognized by the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) and the
United Nations Environmental Programme (UNEP).
In Greece, the program is supported by the Ministry of Tourism, the Hellenic Chamber of Hotels, the Association of Hoteliers of Athens-Attica and the Saronic Gulf, the Panhellenic Federation of Hotel Directors (PODIX) and Hotel Associations across Greece. Additionally, Green Key collaborates closely with a range of partners, from hotel chains to booking platforms, international organizations (e.g., Avra Tours-Jet2Holidays, Hotelplan, etc.), universities and more.
Green Key is eligible for Hotels, Small Tourist Accommodations, Holiday Homes, Hostels, Conference Centers, Restaurants, Catering Services, Camping Sites, Glamping, Amusement Parks, Theme Parks and Museums. The criteria vary by type of tourism business and consist of 13 thematic areas.
