Actions in Phocis & Boeotia

The HSPN has dedicatedly and consistently expanded its actions about the Prevention of Forest Fires in the Regional Units of Phocis & Boeotia during 2021-2022 on "Informing and raising awareness of the school and the local community regarding the forest fire prevention and control, and the forest protection policies and practices". This topic is a part of the wider project on “Learning about Forests” as organized by the International Thematic Environmental Network. In the environmental initiatives of HSPN, MYTILINEOS has been a great supporter for two academic years in a row.

More specifically, the following actions were carried out:

- Online training seminar for Primary and Secondary Education teachers and online information day for volunteer citizens of Phocis and Boeotia on the topic "Getting informed and participating in the prevention and management of forest fires". The purpose of the seminar was to inform the participants about the prevention and management of forest fires, as well as the forest protection policies and practices.
- Tree planting on the hill of Agioi Anargyroi in the area of Itea, near the church of Agioi Anargyroi on Monday, 28 th of March 2022. The action was implemented in collaboration with the Directorates of Primary & Secondary Education of Phocis and the Forestry Agency of Amphissa, when 250 pine trees, supplied by the forest nursery of Aliartos, were planted. Approximately 160 students and their teachers from the following school units took part in the tree planting: Kirras Primary School, Itea High School, Galaxidi High School, Eratini High School with L.T. and Galaxidi High School.
- Tree planting in Moschopodi Forest of Thebes on Tuesday, 29 th of March 2022. The action was carried out in collaboration with the Directorates of Primary & Secondary Education of Boeotia, the Forestry Agency of Thebes and the Reforestation Directorate of Attica. During this action, 200 pine trees and 100 cypress trees were planted, as supplied by the forest nurseries of Aliartos and Amygdaleza of Attica. Approximately 200 students and their teachers from the following school units took part in the tree planting: Lefktron Primary School, Thebes 2 nd Primary School, Thebes 7 th Primary School, Thebes 8 th Primary School and Schimatari Primary School.
- Action to clean up waste irrelevant to the forest ecosystem, in the Vrachakia coast grove of the coastal settlement of Kirras, on Saturday, 4 th of June 2022. The action was attended by the volunteer group of HSPN, representatives from the Association of Free and Autonomous Divers of Phocis region "Krisseos", the KOINSEP Manteo, the Amphissa Forestry Agency and the Board of Directors of Itea local community. The action was organized in collaboration with the Directorates of Primary and Secondary Education of Phocis and the Forestry Agency of Amphissa.
- Action to clean up waste irrelevant to the forest ecosystem in Moschopodi Forest, on Sunday, 5 th of June 2022. Volunteers of the HSPN, the Municipality of Thebes, the Hunting Association of Thebes, the Gaming Board Federation and some citizens participated in the action. The action was organized in collaboration with the Municipality of Thebes, the Forestry Agency of Thebes and the Directorates of Primary and Secondary Education of Boeotia.
- During the cleaning actions in the forest areas, as selected by the competent Forestry Agencies of Phocis and Boeotia Region, large amounts of waste and flammable materials were collected and removed from the accumulated fuel material, which is one of the main causes of fires.

In these actions, the contributors are the driving force. We would like to warmly thank the local community, institutions, Directorates of Education and our supporters for their active contribution, as they sensitively respond to our calls and participate in initiatives about the environment.
