On 12 December 2025, the International Workshop on Policy Recommendation Co-Design for Environmental Education and Ocean Literacy was held both in person in Istanbul and online, within the framework of the Interreg NEXT Black Sea Basin EOL project.

The workshop also served as the project’s final conference, ahead of its completion in February of 2026. Bringing together more than 35 in-person participants and 20 online experts in environmental education and policy from the three participating project countries (Greece, Turkey, and Bulgaria), the workshop included, among other activities, keynote speeches, presentations, and a session entirely dedicated to the co-creation of policy recommendations.

As part of this participatory design process, the workshop’s policy tables involved representatives of local authorities, environmental management bodies, members of the academic community, and civil society organisations.

The outcomes of the workshop will constitute the core input for the drafting of the project’s final deliverable: a policy white paper presenting recommendations for future policies in the field of environmental sustainability and for strengthening environmental and ocean literacy, with a particular focus on the Black Sea region.
