Yesterday, the team associated with the "Life for Lesser Kestrel" LIFE19 NAT/BG/001017 project visited the “Action for Wildlife” in Thessaloniki.

During this visit, discussions ensued with our project partners from the University of Thessaly and the Hellenic Society for the Protection of Nature, focusing on forthcoming collaborative initiatives and the participation of our hosts in supporting the Lesser Kestrel population in Bulgaria and northern Greece.

We are pleased to report that the Action for Wildlife team promptly expressed their willingness to assist, exemplified by the dispatch of a Lesser Kestrel in recovery, which we anticipate will be the first of many. Regrettably, this bird of prey, while rehabilitated, exhibits permanent damage, rendering release into the wild unfeasible. The Green Balkans' Wildlife Rescue Centre will serve as its secondary habitat, surrounded by the community of Lesser Kestrels residing therein, acting as its second familial unit. We hope that the bird will find a prospective mate within this environment and contribute to the proliferation of robust and healthy offspring.

This event marks the commencement of what we anticipate will be a series of collaborative endeavours dedicated to conserving these diminutive yet ecologically significant avian species.
