It was launched in 1999 and addressed to schools of all educational levels. Its aim was to encourage pupils to adopt green spaces in their local area and to raise awareness by learning about the flora and fauna of the urban environment. In 2006 it was approved by the Ministry of Education as an Environmental Education Network.

The aim of the network was to highlight ‘green corners’ through the observation of plants, animals and rocks and the discovery of their interactions and their role in ecosystems. With the help of educational scientific material and a series of suggested activities, the environmental groups adopted, explored and protected their “green corner”, in collaboration with their municipality’s Green Service and other relevant institutions.
