The 1st international label of environmental management that supports sustainable development in the tourism industry
Green Key is the eco-label given as a reward to tourism establishments with environmental identity. It is an international certification confirming reliably that the hospitality area which has received it meets all the international environmental management standards set by the Foundation for Environmental Education Foundation.
The Green Key awarded tourism establishment actively participates in sustainable development practices in the tourism industry, thus protects the environment by reducing its energy footprint, slowing the waste of natural resources and improving the environmental conditions locally and globally.
The high environmental standards expected from these establishments are maintained through strict proper documentation and frequent audits.
Green Key is conducted as a certification Programme for leisure organizations who want to increase the awareness of the owners, staff, stakeholders and clients of the potential for action towards solving environmental and sustainability problems.
The Programme is implemented in more than 65 countries worldwide and is increasingly embraced by people who realise its importance for establishing sustainable practices in the tourism sector

The Green Key was created by the Foundation for Environmental Education, known as the FEE, an international non-governmental organization that has as a purpose the environmental education around the world.
International coordinator and manager of Green Key is FEE while national coordinator of the program for Greece is Hellenic Society for the Protection of Nature.
