In Akamas, the beautiful peninsula of northwestern Cyprus, for the protection of the landscape.
With the presence of the Hellenic Society for the Protection of Nature, the participatory workshop “Akamas in ACTION” took place on Saturday, February 8, at the Turtle Educational Center and Museum in Innia, as part of the HORIZON MSCA TOPIO project.
The workshop was coordinated and organized by J&G Architecture & Engineering, partners in the project, while Dr. Dimitrios Alexakis, Principal Researcher at the Foundation for Research and Technology – Hellas (FORTH) and the project’s coordinator, was also present.
Akamas, one of the seven study areas of the project (in Greece, Cyprus, Spain, Italy, Portugal, Belgium, and Estonia), stands out for its beauty and biodiversity. The event on Saturday offered citizens the opportunity to connect with Akamas from this perspective and reflect on their personal relationship with the landscape, actively participating in the discussion about its future. This is, after all, the core of TOPIO‘s actions. Thus, with the presentation of the project’s goals and Akamas’ unique characteristics, a discussion was initiated, leading to the experiential workshop.
During the workshop, participants explored both time and space, identifying the elements that make Akamas unique, the changes that have occurred in recent years, and the direction that can be taken as we move forward.
