World Wildlife Day, March 3, is dedicated to wild fauna and flora. This year, again, it is celebrated with many environmental problems, globally and locally.

And yet, the case of Mt. Kallidromo shows us that there are also positive examples. Kallidromo recently acquired legal protection by a new Ministerial Decision following work carried out with the synergy of several stakeholders in the framework of the LIFE ForOpenForests project managed by HSPN. This small mountain of Roumeli (Central Greece), has important flora, impressive landscapes, and remarkable birdlife. It is also a model of how traditional human activities, such as transhumance stockbreeding and beekeeping, can coexist with valuable biodiversity.

Celebrating its 70th anniversary this year, at the HSPN we honor world wildlife day; and we see in Mt. Kallidromo the culmination of many years of efforts, both by scientists and the local community, and a vision for the Greek Nature and its protected areas.
